Cambridge Who's Who Names John C. Short Professional of the Year in Law Enforcement
John Short is a Captain in the Jersey City Police Department, the second-largest police department of New Jersey
JERSEY CITY, NJ, August 29, 2011 /Law Enforcement PR News/ -- John Corry Short, Police Captain for the Jersey City Police Department, has been named a Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Law Enforcement. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.
Captain Short has dedicated his career to providing safety and protection to the residents of Jersey City, New Jersey. He has more than three decades of experience in all aspects of law enforcement in a major urban police department. During this time, he has cultivated expertise in law enforcement management and information technology, two skills that have served him well in his role as police captain for the Jersey City Police Department. Captain Short is currently serving as the City Commander on the Evening Tour. He is responsible for all activities of the Police Department during his tour.
He was recently responsible for commanding the Support Services Division of the second-largest police department in New Jersey. Additionally, he served as the project manager for a multimillion-dollar public safety communications facility and managed the construction for a 911 call center and Motorola Trunked Radio System.
In 1993, Captain Short graduated from Saint Peter's College with a bachelor's degree in computer science, as well as from the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University. He went on to obtain a Master of Business Administration from Saint Peter's College. Captain Short was called to work for the Jersey City Police Department in 1979 after working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for three years. He maintains affiliations with the Jersey City Police Superior Officers Association, Fraternal Order of Police, and the Jersey City Police Emerald Society. He is married to Ellen Short, has 4 children and resides in Jersey City. Considering his work history, he is well on his way to achieving his professional goal of assuming a management position and sharing his experience in private industry.
